When do I vote?

2025 General Elections will be held on June 3, 2025.  Polls are open from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. You must be in line to vote by 7:00 pm in order to vote. 

 
Where do I vote?

Your polling place should be listed on your voter registration card.  However, polling places sometimes change.  It is a good idea to prepare ahead of time and confirm your polling location. Who can vote by absentee?

You may vote by absentee ballot in Mississippi if:

  • ​You will be away from your county on Election Day for any reason when polls will be open.

  • You are a student, teacher or administrator at a school whose studies or employment there necessitates your absence from your county on Election Day; or you are the spouse or dependent thereof.

  • You have a temporary or permanent physical disability that renders you unable to vote in person without substantial hardship.

  • You are the parent, spouse or dependent of a person with a temporary or permanent physical disability who is hospitalized outside of their county of residence or more than fifty (50) miles away, and you (the parent, spouse or dependent) will be with that person on Election Day.

  • You are sixty-five (65) years of age or older.

  • You will be unable to vote in person because you are required to be at work on Election Day during the times at which the polls will be open.

Voting by Absentee Instructions

You may vote in person or by mail as follows:

  • In-person voting at Circuit Clerk’s Office for April 1st Primary begins March 24th. You may vote in-person during regular operating hours 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and the Saturday before Election Day from 8:00 am – Noon.

  • By mail: You must request an absentee ballot within 45 days of the election.  You may return the absentee ballot in-person at the circuit clerk's office on or before three days before the election or by mail by 5 pm the day before the election.  If you are sending the ballot by mail, it must be notarized.  

 
What do I need to bring?

All voters casting a ballot in person at the polls or casting an absentee ballot in the circuit or municipal clerk’s office must present one of the following forms of acceptable photo ID:

  • Driver’s license (can be expired for 10 years or less)

  • Government issued photo ID card

  • United States passport

  • Government employee identification card

  • Firearms license

  • Student photo ID issued by an accredited Mississippi university, college or community/junior college

  • United States military ID

  • Tribal photo ID

  • Other photo ID issued by any branch, department, agency or entity of the United States government or any State government

  • Mississippi Voter Identification Card

Obtaining a Free Mississippi Voter Identification Card

All circuit clerk's offices are able to issue a FREE Mississippi Voter Identification Card to any eligible Mississippi voter who does NOT have any other form of acceptable photo ID. You may call toll-free 1-844-MSVOTER (1-844-678-6837) if you need a ride to a circuit clerk's office to get a Voter ID or if you have any questions.

 

You will need to complete an ID Application (found on the Secretary of State’s website) and bring one of the following forms of identification to receive a free​ voter ID.

  • A Photo Identity Document

  • Social Security Card

  • Voter Registration Card

  • Utility Bill

  • Birth Certificate or Verification

  • Medicaid Card 

  • Medicare Card Paycheck or Government Check 

  • Bank Statement 

  • W-2 Form 

  • Other Government Document

What if I forget my ID?

If you do not bring your ID or your name is not listed on the poll books, you have a legal right to vote by affidavit. You must show your ID to the municipal or circuit clerk's office within five days after the election.  You are entitled to receive written information at the time of voting on how to determine if the vote was counted and, if not, why not.

Know Your Voting Rights

  • Every qualified Mississippi voter is entitled to vote regardless of race, creed, color, or disability. No one may refuse a person the right to vote if that person is legally entitled to vote.

  • No voter shall be threatened, intimidated, or paid to vote by any person.

  • Voters whose names do not appear on the poll book or who do not have an acceptable form of photo ID are entitled to vote by affidavit ballot.

  • Voters who cast an affidavit ballot are entitled to receive written information at the time of voting on how to determine if the vote was counted and, if not, why not.

  • Voters who require assistance in marking the ballot because of disability, blindness, or an inability to read or write are entitled to receive assistance from a person of the voter’s choice, excluding, a candidate whose name is on the ballot, or the spouse, parent, sibling or child of a candidate whose name is on the ballot, or by a poll watcher who is observing in the polling place on Election Day, or the voter’s employer or agent of that employer, or officer or agent of the voter’s union; unless, however, a candidate for office or the spouse, parent or child of a candidate is related within the first degree to the voter requesting assistance.

¿Quién puede votar por voto ausente?

Usted puede votar por boleta ausente en Misisipi si:

  • Estará fuera de su condado el día de las elecciones por cualquier motivo cuando las urnas estén abiertas.

  • Es estudiante, maestro o administrador en una escuela cuyos estudios o empleo allí requieren su ausencia de su condado el día de las elecciones; o es el cónyuge o dependiente de esta persona.

  • Tiene una discapacidad física temporal o permanente que le impide votar en persona sin dificultades sustanciales.

  • Es el padre, cónyuge o dependiente de una persona con una discapacidad física temporal o permanente que está hospitalizada fuera de su condado de residencia o a más de cincuenta (50) millas de distancia, y usted (el padre, cónyuge o dependiente) estará con esa persona el día de las elecciones.

  • Tiene 65 años o más.

  • No podrá votar en persona porque tiene que estar en su trabajo el día de las elecciones durante las horas en que las urnas estarán abiertas.

Instrucciones para votar por voto ausente
Puede votar en persona o por correo de la siguiente manera:

  • Votación en persona en la Oficina del Secretario del Circuito para las elecciones primarias del 1 de abril comienza el 24 de marzo. Puede votar en persona durante las horas de operación regulares de 8:00 am a 5:00 pm de lunes a viernes y el sábado antes del día de las elecciones de 8:00 am a mediodía.

  • Por correo: Debe solicitar una boleta de voto ausente dentro de los 45 días previos a las elecciones. Obtener una tarjeta de identificación de votante gratuita de Misisipi

Todas las oficinas del secretario del circuito pueden emitir una tarjeta de identificación de votante de Misisipi GRATUITA a cualquier votante elegible de Misisipi que NO tenga ninguna otra forma de identificación con foto aceptable. ¿Qué pasa si olvido mi identificación?

Si no lleva su identificación o su nombre no aparece en los registros de votación, tiene el derecho legal de votar por medio de una declaración jurada. Debe mostrar su identificación en la oficina del secretario municipal o del circuito dentro de los cinco días posteriores a la elección. Tiene derecho a recibir información por escrito en el momento de votar sobre cómo determinar si su voto fue contado y, si no, por qué no.

Conozca sus derechos de votación

  • Cada votante calificado de Misisipi tiene derecho a votar independientemente de su raza, credo, color o discapacidad. Nadie puede negarle el derecho a votar a una persona que tenga derecho legal para hacerlo.

  • Ningún votante debe ser amenazado, intimidado ni recibir pago por votar por ninguna persona.
